Yeah, It’s been rather a trip. We were supposed to leave last Monday, but our flight was canceled, so we had to leave a day later, and we got routed through Dallas, then Seattle, then London. A perfectly logical route, no? Then, as a special bonus, my bag was lost and it didn’t arrive for three days; it’s possible the underwear I was wearing now has its own ZIP Code. Rowan and I did make a trip to Primark, a store which is sometimes referred to as the English version of Walmart, and bought some clothes that, by volume, were probably only about 95% plastic, including the dress pants and shirt that I wore to the first concert and then threw in the trash bin on the way back to the hotel after the concert. Did I mention it’s been unusually warm?
OK, enough whingeing. London is incredible. We’ve seen breathtaking history and eaten fantastic meals, and we’ve seen so many things up close that we’ve only seen in movies before that it seems a little bit surreal. We toured Westminster Abbey, saw Big Ben, Parliament, Buckingham Palace, took a night tour of London on a double-decker bus, went on the London Eye (which was amazing) and, oh yeah, played a concert, which went really well, considering I was wearing plastic clothing. Our second and final London concert is tomorrow at St. George’s Hanover, where Handel was a member when he lived here. Mel and I have discussed whether it’s a little too cheeky to play some Handel at Handel’s church, and decided to go for it anyway. What could possibly go wrong?
Then, Wednesday morning it’s off to the highlands of Scotland. By car. I repeat, what could possibly go wrong? It’s only about 425 miles. I’ll check in again after we get to Inverness, I promise…the pace of the trip will slow down considerably in a couple of days. If anyone is actually reading this…thanks for coming along!
